Amasi Rusks

There’s something timeless about a rusk—especially one made with amasi. Ours are crafted the old-fashioned way: by hand, in small batches, using a recipe passed down and perfected over the years. The result is a golden, gently sweet, wonderfully crumbly rusk that invites you to slow down, take a sip, and savour a moment.

Each batch begins with real amasi (cultured buttermilk), giving these rusks their distinctive tang and soft richness. We cream together margarine and sugar, fold in fresh eggs, and blend it all with flour and a hint of leavening to get the perfect texture: crisp on the outside, tender in the bite. After baking, they’re sliced and dried slowly—because good things take time.

Ideal for dunking in coffee, tea, or even warm milk, these rusks carry the essence of a South African kitchen—simple, satisfying, and full of heart.
